MP Greg Kerr announces federal investment of close to $19,000 for seniors’ project in Annapolis Royal

ANNAPOLIS ROYAL, NS
– Today Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament for West Nova, announced funding for the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens Society as part of the New Horizons for Seniors Program, provided by the Government of Canada.

On behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, and the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State for Seniors, Mr. Kerr announced $18,610 in funding for the organization under the Community Participation and Leadership component of the New Horizons for Seniors Program.

“I am proud to announce that our Government is continuing to support local seniors’ projects,” said Mr. Kerr. “Federal funding towards this project will help allow seniors in Annapolis Royal to increase their participation in the community.”

The Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens Society will receive funding for its project; Growing Active Seniors at the Historic Gardens. Through this project, seniors will develop and deliver a volunteer program at the Historic Gardens and plan, develop and enhance community gardening opportunities and participation for Seniors in the Gardens, thus reducing isolation and enhancing their involvement in the community.

“This federal funding will enable us to undertake an exciting new project involving seniors at the Gardens,” said Keith Crysler, Chair of the Board of directors at the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens Society. “We greatly appreciate the support for our project from Mr. Kerr and the Government of Canada.”
