Spring Cleanup
Our team of gardeners hit the ground in early April, only to be greeted by snow!

But work around it they did...
and the gardens have very quickly started to look neat and tidy!

But, there is so much more to do to be ready for the season ahead.
They could use some help!

Join the 2025 Historic Gardens Spring Cleanup efforts April 21-25, 9am-4pm.
A community tradition, the first “Spring Clean-up” at the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens occurred in April 1987. Decades later, the Gardens Clean-up has expanded to a multi-day event.
Typical shifts are 9-12 or 1-4 each day. Volunteers can work several shifts during the week, or if you only have an hour to give, we’d love to see you regardless! It makes a great family outing – an opportunity to work outdoors with your kids and teach them the value of volunteering at the same time.
As one volunteer noted: “What a wonderful opportunity it is to volunteer for Spring Clean-Up at the Historic Gardens! Not only does it feel great to be able to give back to this most beautiful cornerstone of our community, but it's a fantastic learning opportunity too.”

Our Spring Garden!

The Dawn Viburnum on the Lower Path is a highlight...

...as are the hellebores along the stream above the ponds...

...and the heaths in the Winter Collection.

Our Spring Garden... continued!

There are various bulbs throughout the Gardens providing lots of colour!

The leaves of the tree peonies are starting to emerge - so funky!

And so are the leaves of the water lilies, still submerged...

The vivid blue of the scilla

And the first of the magnolias are about to pop!
(Always cause for celebration)

The Gardens Shop - Nova Scotia Loyal
A reminder that the Gardens Shop is now a proud member of the Nova Scotia Loyal programme. When you look through the Shop, you will see a Nova Scotia Loyal emblem on or beside most of our products - we primarily feature the work of Nova Scotia makers and creators. Beyond those products, we have some things from other parts of Canada, also indicated in the displays. And finally, although a rarity, we have a few products that are international, like our Audubon Bird stuffies for example.
Please explore the Shop next time you are in, and chat with our staff!
We also have a handy list of the suppliers who make our Shop so special:

Donations to the Gardens

The Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens Society is a registered charity whose purpose is stewardship of these Seventeen Acres of Paradise. Without the charitable donations we receive every year, the Gardens could simply not exist. We encourage you to support the Society in this important work to help to ensure the Gardens continue to blossom for future generations.
Please consider a donation today!

I'll close with this photo of mayflowers, taken in a cemetery near town.
What a heavenly scent!
All for now. Hope the Easter Bunny finds you!
