This is How we Do It
People often ask how we overwinter our gunnera plant.
The answer... we build it a gunnera house for the winter!
This protects the base of the plant and then in the spring it begins to grow again, emerging from its insulation. The staff will soon dismantle the house and allow the plant to fully begin its 2025 season.

The staff took a few moments this week to learn from the folks at Scotia Horticulture Solutions as they treated several of our trees for Beech Leaf-Mining Weevil, which has been an issue in recent years.

Magnolia Season has Begun!
We are thrilled to be into magnolia season. These lovely trees will be blooming in the Gardens and throughout Annapolis Royal over the next couple weeks. Whites, pinks, yellows... and such a lovely scent. They do not all bloom at once, so you will want to visit our community several times in the next few weeks to enjoy them all!
Here's a taste of the early bloomers...

Donations to the Gardens

The Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens Society is a registered charity whose purpose is stewardship of these Seventeen Acres of Paradise. Without the charitable donations we receive every year, the Gardens could simply not exist. We encourage you to support the Society in this important work to help to ensure the Gardens continue to blossom for future generations.
Please consider a donation today!

I'll close with a shot of the former Annapolis Royal Train Station.
The last train went through in 1990, but the station was lovingly restored and repurposed by Jane Nicholson and remains a wonderful heritage icon in Annapolis Royal.
